Spritz CookiesMaking spritz cookies is challenging in some ways in that it takes the right measure to come up with the dough that will work with a cookie press. It should be soft enough to pass through the cookie press and yet be hard enough to maintain its shape. Here is a recipe for spritz cookies that you can try out.

Ingredients:

2 cups all purpose flour
1/2 pound unsalted softened butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
A pinch of salt

Optional Garnishes:
Sprinkles
Colored Sugar
Nuts
Powdered Sugar
Cherries
Frosting

Equipment:
Mixing bowl
Baking sheets
Cookie press

Directions:
Mix flour, sugar and salt in a mixing bowl then add in a sprinkle of vanilla extract. Break the egg into the center of the mixture and then add in the pieces of butter softened at room temperature. Try to mix everything thoroughly until you come up with a dough. The little you knead it the better since it can lead to tough cookies later on. Just try to mix them until all the ingredients have combined cohesively.

Once you have the dough ready, load it inside the cookie press with a chosen cookie die pattern. Then slowly press the right amount of dough from the cookie press into the baking sheet. Try to get accustomed of setting the right amount of dough for each cookie. Once you get the hang of it, you can then make the cookie shapes like a pro.

Place the baking sheet on the oven pre-heated at 350 degrees F. let them stay for 10 to 12 minutes. After taking them out, quickly add in the garnish of your choice. Let the cookies cool for 5 minutes and then place them on a rack. Freeze them for later if needed.
