Oatmeal Sugar Cookies

Here is a cookie recipe that combines two popular ingredients that makes most cookies so delicious and irresistible. Sugar and oatmeal are together in this cookie recipe that you may like to try out.

Oatmeal Sugar Cookies

1 cup white sugar
1 cup rolled oats
1 cup shortening
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup raisins
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


Mixing bowl
Electric mixer
Baking sheet


  1. Using an electric mixer, cream the sugar, shortening, eggs and vanilla. Continue until the ingredients mix thoroughly.
  2. Add in the flour, oats, baking soda, raisins, salt and ground cinnamon. Mix thoroughly.
  3. Refrigerate the cookie dough for four to five hours or overnight.
  4. Shape the cookie dough into balls using a rounded teaspoon. Place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  5. Flatten the cookie balls using a drinking glass with its bottom greased and dipped in sugar.
  6. Place the baking sheet with the cookies in an oven pre-heated to 375 degrees F or 190 degrees C.
  7. Bake the cookies for 10 minutes.
  8. Recipe makes 4 1/2 dozen cookies.
